Boston Boomer writes PUMAs Roar: A Symbolic Vote is not Enough!
quote turncoat Lanny Davis as follows:
“We are absolutely committed to electing Barack Obama and this is the best way to do it so let people have their moment,” Davis said. “Sen. Clinton will assure that nothing will occur that will hinder Sen. Obama ’s chances but even more will help him by when it comes time for her vote, by voting for him and by moving at the convention to nominate Sen. Obama by acclamation.”
Davis said Clinton will have “no sympathy” for some of her supporters who pledge to continue to try to get her nominated at the convention.
“It’s a free country and some of the more passionate and less, say, constructive of her supporters are a very, very small minority, might try to do something like that,” he said. “No one can be associated with more loyalty and dedication than I towards Sen. Clinton and I will and many of us will be very critical of anybody on the convention floor to do anything that undermines Sen. Obama.”
“If that happened, if someone who hogs the microphone or tries to demagogue or tries to be negative, there will no sympathy from Hillary Clinton or loyalists such as myself,” Davis said.
Oh really, Lanny? Maybe you should have kept this under your hat for awhile. We are not going to be satisfied with a symbolic vote, and for Hillary to vote against her own nomination would be both ridiculous and demeaning. Nope. Not buying it. This may be a step in the right direction, but it isn’t going to mollify those of us who believe the nomination was gamed for Obama from the beginning.
As SM wrote yesterday, we want a real nominating convention and if necessary we want a floor fight! Not only that, Lanny, most of us are never going to vote for Obama in November no matter what happens. All you have accompished by this move is to show us that we are having an effect on the process. On top of that, Obama now looks even weaker than before. Those who refuse to accept him as the legitimate winner aren’t likely to do so just because he caves into her demands.
It makes him look weak and ratifies Clinton’s sense of entitlement to share party leadership and the convention spotlight.
It was supposed to be his party. Now it’s theirs. His and hers.
Correctamundo! We are now going to redouble our efforts now. If you give us an inch, we will take a mile. We still have time to turn this into a real nomination fight. Get the claws out PUMAs, this is our time. “We are the ones no one expected!”
I am bumping up this post to show what can happen when you fight for what is right and what you truly believe in.
Now it is time to help the delegates understand what we already know, that The Borg Prince is not ready, inexperienced, unelectable and only concerned about himself and trading up. Onward PUMAs!!!!
OH! I almost forgot…..Senator Clinton – it is time for you to stand up, unsuspend your campaign, and fight for this country as we have been fighting for our democracy. I am sure there are quite a few people who have lost respect for you because you followed party lines even though the RBC decided ahead of time to give uncommitted and your delegates to Obama. Guess What? This whole situation became larger than you or Obama at that point ….Stand Up, Call BS on this railroading of democracy in our country and tell the Obama Camp and DNC Cabal that you will no longer be held hostage! It is very obvious that no matter what you do, your political career will be fatally damaged if Dean, Pelosi, Reid, Brazile and the rest continue to stay in power….and our country will be forever lessened.

The Atlantic’s Marc Ambinder reported this morning, and now officially, that Hillary Clinton’s name will be placed in nomination, meaning on the ballot, at the Democratic Convention.
Of course, Obama decided it best to welcome her participation for the sake of the team — unity and all that, you know. Do ya think? How about: with the most sophisticated bulldog machine and millions of campaign bucks raised, his paltry self is statistically tied with John McCain.
From Ambinder and now from Hillary’s website: A joint statement from the Clinton and Obama campaigns:
Since June, Senators Obama and Clinton have been working together to ensure a Democratic victory this November. They are both committed to winning back the White House and to to ensuring that the voices of all 35 million people who participated in this historic primary election are respected and heard in Denver. To honor and celebrate these voices and votes, both Senator Obama’s and Senator Clinton’s names will be placed in nomination.
“I am convinced that honoring Senator Clinton’s historic campaign in this way will help us celebrate this defining moment in our history and bring the party together in a strong united fashion,” said Senator Barack Obama.
Senator Obama’s campaign encouraged Senator Clinton’s name to be placed in nomination as a show of unity and in recognition of the historic race she ran and the fact that she was the first woman to compete in all of our nation’s primary contests.
“With every voice heard and the Party strongly united, we will elect Senator Obama President of the United States and put our nation on the path to peace and prosperity once again,” said Senator Hillary Clinton.Senator Obama and Senator Clinton are looking forward to a convention unified behind Barack Obama as the Party’s nominee and to victory this fall for America.
Well, madamab, The Confluence’s playwright-in-residence couldn’t have written this scenario better. Speculation’s a-flyin’ that Hillary will use the occasion to release her delegates to Obama. Hmm. It could happen, but naturally we PUMAs will do all in our power to keep her ROAR fierce and encourage the delegates, who are being systematically threatened, coerced, and pressured to go over to the O-side, to remain strong and committed to the candidate we elected them to support.
And of course after six months, now that Obama has just jumped on the seat-our-delegates train, he needs even more delegates than accounted for in order to clinch the nomination. Now that he’s recognized, well that’s too generous, now that it’s dawned on him that he cannot win in his current incarnation, he’s morphed once again into the candidate whose claim to a vision of change trumps the reality he’s actually produced.
8/5/2008Senator Clinton Urges Credential Committee to Restore Full Votes for Michigan and Florida Convention Delegates
Senator Hillary Clinton issued the following statement in response to the letter Senator Barack Obama sent to the Credentials Committee urging that it allow the Michigan and Florida delegates to have a full vote at the 2008 Democratic Convention.
“During the campaign, I strongly advocated for the Democratic Party to seat the Florida and Michigan delegation with their full votes. The Democratic Party has always stood up for the principle of counting every person’s vote. Today, Senator Obama has requested that the Credentials Committee give Florida and Michigan delegates their full votes. This is the right position for the Democratic Party and for the country and I urge the Credentials Committee to restore full votes to Florida and Michigan delegates.”
So, now the “magic number” of delegates necessary to clinch the Dem Nom for POTUS is now 2118, according to RealClearPolitics. If you go there, of course, keep in mind that the Superdelegates can change their minds up through first vote on the convention floor.
Great job, PUMAs!!! Just Say No Deal! Keep up the pressure. Buyers’ remorse abounds. The Russia-Georgia conflict is an August surprise that is testing the Dems untested candidate. Call Now: How’s he drivin’?

The Denver Group’s Heidi Li Feldman puts forward the argument that Howard Dean, the Chair of the DNC should put Clintons name into nomination.
“Frankly, it still seems to me that it is Dr. Dean’s responsibility, not either of the candidates’, to announce whose names will be entered into nomination at the convention. Dr. Dean is the Democratic Party Chair, this is the Democratic Party Convention, and therefore the Democratic Party Chair has the responsibility to run the Convention, first according to Party rules, and second, by exercising good judgment when judgment calls are necessary.”””
The announcement suggests a staged convention where Clinton releases her delegates after the roll call.
Not acceptable!
Delegates should continue to sign the nominating petition, and we at PUMA Alliance hope they will.
The official joint statement from Obama and Clinton.
“Since June, Senators Obama and Clinton have been working together to ensure a Democratic victory this November,” said the campaigns in a joint statement. “They are both committed to winning back the White House and to to ensuring that the voices of all 35 million people who participated in this historic primary election are respected and heard in Denver.
“To honor and celebrate these voices and votes, both Senator Obama’s and Senator Clinton’s names will be placed in nomination.”
The release said Obama’s campaign encouraged the move to promote party unity, and recognize Clinton’s status as the first woman to compete in every presidential primary.
“I am convinced that honoring Senator Clinton’s historic campaign in this way will help us celebrate this defining moment in our history and bring the party together in a strong united fashion,” said Obama in the statement, which also quoted Clinton saying that “with every voice heard and the Party strongly united, we will elect Senator Obama President of the United States and put our nation on the path to peace and prosperity once again.”
Not your sweetie has a great cartoon that sums up the general feeling of PUMA Clinton supporters who can see through this charade and notes:
“reminiscent of the Queen of heart’s trial that starts with the verdict.”
Only a fully open roll call vote with a genuine chance of victory for both candidates will be sufficient to ensure anything approaching unity. Or perhaps the damage is already done, when the RBC ruled to award delegates to Obama that he had not won. As Riverdaughter points out on the Confluence the difference between the two candidates of pledged delegates, is probably 59 delegates. Close enough for a genuine roll call vote and for Superdelegates to look again at the electability issues of both candidates.
A genuine convention will go a long way towards healing some of the wounds inflicted by an anti-democratic Primary process. Perhaps many will still say no deal to Barack Obama, his backtracking on Public Financing, FISA and his friends won’t help his electability issues but looking through the CNN blog many of the Obama supporters would vote for McCain if Hillary wins. How ironic!
A fully Democratic convention is the least the DNCC can do after the travesty they have served up and called democracy so far.
A staged convention? Just Say No Deal.
Hillary Clinton For President?
Deal…
……
Well I hate to be the ant at the picnic but from all I hear, this will be a dog and pony show. If BO was “white” it would be a different story and Hillary could wrestle the nomination away. There is so much buyers remorse out here where “real people” live.
Just like always the woman does all the hard work, the man walks in, takes all the credit, get the raise and promation. And what does the woman get? A dinner, but you are expected to “pay” for it by getting fucked.
